Contexts and Variables

Your systems operate in an organization. Intellect should too. This capability is useful for "set once, use many" configuration.

Purpose

To define-once variables and contexts within Intellect for frequent reuse by you and the Intellect Server. Variables define "metadata" about data and Contexts give a hierarchical structure to these Variables and your operations as they exist in real-life.

Description

The CVA sub-system within Intellect enables you to define only once where data is located, what variables those data sources contain and the "contexts" within which those variables exist. This is a time saver since you merely need to define it once and the Intellect Server and tools know what data exists, what its meaning and use is, where and how to go get it without having you to "connect to" or "log into" data sources repeatedly. Intellect just does it behind the scenes for you.

Since Intellect knows what variables' meanings and uses are it is then empowered to create solutions autonomously (automatically by itself). Intellect can analyze what the causal relationships are within a unit operation and also across numerous similar "unit operations". For example, if you have 5 similar production lines, not only can Intellect see the causal effect of process variables vs. quality results, but also see how similar an effect exists across production lines.

Variables are meta data about data, including type, valid ranges, alternative namings and sources, usage, and much more. You need only define this once in Intellect.

Contexts are a powerful concept in that you can both define your operations in a hierarchy and associate data and Intellect tasks into that same structure, making Intellect both organized and intuitive. For example, a manufacturing plant may have "variables" at a plant level (e.g., steam header pressure, outdoor ambient temperature) and also at a department level and at a machine or unit operation level and perhaps sub-operations levels. You can organize your data and also your tasks to match your operations so it makes sense to you.
